The Gemini Agent, GPT-6 for Everyone, and What the State of AI Report Says About Your Team

RiverRun Digital's daily AI update for small businesses that run on relationships. Three stories today, all about AI moving into everyday work.

Watch: Dee's AI doppelganger with today's 30-second AI update. Watch on YouTube and subscribe for the daily update.

1. Google Cloud announces the Gemini agent

Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent today at its Gemini at Work event. Google calls it "a universal agent for work": one prompt box for questions, knowledge work, content, and code. It plans the work, connects to your company's business systems, and brings back finished work inside your documents and inbox.

You invoke it by tagging @Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat. It also works from Slack and Microsoft 365. Behind the scenes, it picks the model that fits each job, including both Gemini and Anthropic's Claude, with built-in cost controls and enterprise-grade security.

Scope matters: it's in private preview right now, with wider availability coming soon for Workspace customers on select Business and Enterprise plans. If your team already lives in Google Workspace, this is one to watch as it opens up.

Why it matters for your business

The agent has four kinds of memory (session, semantic, procedural, episodic), so multi-day tasks persist. Delegate a project Monday, pick it up Thursday, no re-explaining. Google's examples are telling: a manager's "send me the latest project update as a slide deck" email becomes a one-click delegation, and it can set up a meeting with regional event leads without you supplying a single name or email address. There's also a headless API so it can run inside third-party apps, and sub-agents that tackle multi-step jobs running for hours or days.

2. GPT-6 and Intelligent UI expand to ChatGPT Free and Go

Starting today, OpenAI is expanding GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT to Free and Go users. Paid plans started getting it yesterday. Answers can now include interactive charts, diagrams, buttons, forms, and small tools, like a savings calculator or a bill splitter, right inside the conversation.

The model lineup: Pro, Business, and Enterprise users get GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says the rollout is global, though Enterprise access depends on workplace admin settings. Note this update is for the Chat tab in ChatGPT; the models behind Work and Codex aren't changing.

Why it matters for your business

1.2 billion people use ChatGPT weekly, so interactive answers just landed in front of an enormous customer base overnight. There is no separate usage quota for Intelligent UI; normal plan limits apply. Two practical notes: older desktop apps don't support it (use the web version), phones need the latest app update, and Pro users should know the Pro reasoning option still uses GPT-6 Astra, which does not support Intelligent UI. If your team leans on free ChatGPT accounts, this is a good week to take a fresh look at what it can do.

3. The State of AI Report 2026: it's a human skill issue

Investor Nathan Benaich of Air Street Capital published the ninth annual State of AI Report today. Three takeaways:

The money stats are staggering: OpenAI and Anthropic's combined annualized revenue run rates hit $105B by late summer, up from about $30B at the start of the year. Meanwhile inference costs are falling 47% per quarter, roughly 13x cheaper each year, which is the SMB affordability story in one number. And February's "SaaSpocalypse", when nearly $285B was wiped from software stocks in two weeks, is a reminder to rethink software spend as agents take on more work.

Why it matters for your business

If Benaich is right, helping your team set these tools up well may matter as much as which tool you pick. The bottleneck isn't the technology; it's knowing how to use it.
