1. ChatGPT's Chrome extension can now read your open tabs and act on what it sees

OpenAI updated its ChatGPT extension for Chrome, and this is a real step change. The extension can now read your open tabs and take browser actions on what it sees: compare prices across tabs, fill out forms, even draft follow-up emails from what is on screen. Powerful, but anything that fills out forms on your behalf is operating at a high trust level. Before handing it anything sensitive, verify what requires your approval and what it does on its own. Note: this is not the return of OpenAI's own browser. That project was retired back in August. This is the extension, and it is the one to watch.

Why it matters for your business

Browser agents collapse research, comparison, and data entry into one step. The firms that benefit first will be the ones with clear rules about what the agent may touch unsupervised. Treat form fills as high trust until you have verified the approval behavior yourself.

2. Agentic AI use among European small businesses is up more than eight times since May

OpenAI's economic research team reports that agentic AI use among European small businesses has grown more than eightfold since May. The honest caveat: that is growth inside OpenAI's own sample of agent users, not a census of every small business in Europe. Still, the direction is unmistakable. Europe's small business chapter in AI is going agentic, fast.

Why it matters for your business

If you serve European clients or compete with European firms, the adoption timeline just got shorter. Agentic workflows are moving from experiment to expectation.

3. Small businesses are building AI faster than they can govern it

New research from Pax8 finds that two out of three AI-engaged small firms are now building their own AI tools, while only about a third of US builders have formal review processes in place. Most small firms are shipping custom AI without a formal review step. That is not a reason to stop building. It is a reason to build the review in now, while it is cheap, instead of bolting it on later when it is expensive.

Why it matters for your business

One bot, one job, and a weekly check-in beats a tangle of ungoverned agents every time. Keep a baseline, retune instructions, integrations, and handoffs regularly, and keep a human approval gate on anything client-facing.

4. Gmail Live and AI Inbox expand to paid Google Workspace users

Google is expanding Gmail Live and the AI Inbox to paid Workspace users. Two clarifications that matter: Gmail Live and AI Inbox are two different things, so do not mix them up. And at launch this is Workspace customers in the US with English set. If that is you, check your admin console.

Why it matters for your business

The inbox is becoming an AI surface. Even if the rollout has not reached you yet, it signals where Google is taking email for everyone. Worth knowing before your team starts asking about it.

5. New Mexico State launches an AI readiness course for small business

New Mexico State University launched an online course called AI Readiness for Small Business. Worth a look if you or your team want structured grounding. One note on the numbers floating around it: the small business credit survey figures being cited come from 2025 fieldwork, not a fresh finding this week. The course is new. The survey data is not.

Why it matters for your business

Structured training beats scattered experimenting when you are bringing a team along. A short course can set the vocabulary before you set the tools.

Quick hit: Google confirmed that skills in Workspace are delayed. That clears up yesterday's unverified note. Delayed, not canceled.
